Book Review: Cuff Me (New York's Finest #3) by Lauren Layne

Meet New York's Finest-three hot brothers sworn to protect and serve the city they love . . . and the women who've stolen their hearts.

ARRESTED BY LOVE

Vincent Moretti is one of the NYPD's top homicide detectives-and one of the most eligible bachelors in town. His family, however, thinks he should date his longtime partner, Jill-a sassy, sexy, smart-mouthed blonde who drives him absolutely crazy.

Behind the quiet authority, tough-guy demeanor, and dark aviator glasses lies a man with a big soul-and a hard body that can soften any girl's heart. After years as his coworker, Jill Henley has given up hope that anything could happen between her and Vin. Besides, loving him would break all the rules. But seeing Jill with someone else triggers feelings in Vincent he never knew he had. Now he'll have to stop playing good cop/bad cop-and find a way to convince her to be his partner for life. . .

I did a bad thing...I started a new series with the last book in the series.  Cuff Me is the third entry in author Lauren Layne's New York's Finest series featuring (some of) the Moretti brothers--Luc (book 1, Frisk Me), Anthony (book 2, Steal Me), and Vincent (book 3, Cuff Me).  I meant to start with Frisk Me, but Cuff Me just called out to me.  I'm a sucker for the guy finally realizes he's in love with his friend storyline and I know that's why I had to start with this one.  I'm glad I did!  I really enjoyed Vincent and Jill's romance.

Homicide Detective Jill Henley has had it bad for her partner, Vincent Moretti for a while now, but he doesn't seem to return those romantic feelings.  So when her mom needs her help in Florida, she's more than happy to go and help out for three months.  While in Florida, Jill meets Tom and they fall in love and get engaged.  The only problem is Jill's lingering feelings for a certain detective.

On the day of Jill's return home, Vincent finally decides to ask his partner out on a date.  Too bad he's blindsided by the news of her engagement.  Being confronted with losing the very person he values most in this world, Vincent must confront how he really feels for Jill and fight for her.

Ms. Layne does a great job of building the world that Vincent and Jill live in, surrounding them with an excellent supporting cast, and making their struggle believable and mature.  Neither Jill or Vincent come across as childish, and their situation is handled with maturity.  It could have been very easy to fall into some genre cliches, but Ms. Layne made both Jill and her (ex) fiance sympathetic when ending their engagement and she made Vincent a stand-up guy who didn't pressure Jill to cheat on her fiance.  The chemistry between the hero and heroine is snappy and yummy, and the sex isn't bad either!  This is a perfect beach read!

Sadly, it appears that two Moretti siblings will not be getting their stories told.  I'm kinda bummed by that because I think Ms. Layne sets both Marco and Elena up beautifully for their own stories.  Here's hoping that Marco and Elena will get their time to shine soon!

XOXO,

Teresa

Rating:  4 out of 4 Stars.  I highly recommend this book to readers looking for a light beach read, a light mystery and some spice in their romance.
